About Amblewood

For those visitors looking for the unusual, the warm and the welcoming in Bed and Breakfasts or Guest Houses, look no further than Amblewood Guest House in Hout Bay, near Cape Town, South Africa. This bed and breakfast offers traditional hospitality and old-fashioned charm. Hosts, June and Trevor, are always on hand to ‘meet-and-greet’ with a cup of tea (or coffee), a chat, local advice or restaurant recommendations. Each room is styled in a quirky, original or personal style, which seeks to avoid the box-like, mass-produced feel of the hotel chain. All rooms say come in, relax, put your feet up and sleep well! A generous full English breakfast is served on Amblewood's pool deck each morning. Amblewood’s charm (family photos in the foyer), and sense of spaciousness (spectacular views over Hout Bay beach and harbour) are perfectly blended with a homely, comfortable atmosphere. Highly recommended for friendliness, cleanliness and hosts who give value for your dollar.

Trypadvisor Reviews

A welcoming and comfortable retreat
We were happy that on this occasion we were able to obtain a booking for our stay in the Cape. Trevor and June are generous and welcoming hosts and the accomodation is superb. We could not do justice to the excellent breakfast that was offered every morning and were grateful to them for their advice on things to do in and around the area.
The staff were very helpful and friendly and kept our room immacualte in spite of our suitcases cluttering the ingle nook
We were not put out by the onerous water restrictions or the obvious care taken over security arrangements.
'350 Club'
Recently returned from a excellent stay at Amblewood. Hout Bay is a fantastic base for exploring the Cape Town region, Beaches, Chapmans Peak, Cape Point, Table Mountain, Boulders Beach (Penguins) and the Winelands etc. Amblewood is a lovely place with great views and hosts Trevor and June could not have been more welcoming and friendly. Always there to help and advise if required without ever being over imposing. Breakfast was freshly cooked to order every morning and was delicious. Bedrooms are spacious and the whole house is spotlessly clean. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Amblewood and would not hesitate to highly recommend to anyone. Was sad to leave and return to a cool and cloudy Manchester!
Wonderful Guest House

Trevor and June greet you like old friends upon arrival and do everything possible to make sure your stay meets all of your needs. The rooms are charming, clean and comfortable, the breakfasts are delicious and the view of the harbor is stunning. Some of the rooms have balconies, which are great features. Great value as well.

Beautiful place

The Amblewood is a beautiful place with a stunning view. We had a big, beautifully decorated room with a lovely balcony. Breakfasts are big and very tasty. Trevor and June are very helpful and nice hosts. If you do not have a car you can walk down to town even if is a bit sweaty going back upphill. However, it may not be advisable to do it after dark. A great and friendly B&B!

Amazing View
Stayed for 3 nights in the Victorian Room. We had a relaxing and comfortable stay. We were met by Trevor and Max the dog - who operated the electronic gates as we approached - he had spied our arrival. June fixed us a cold drink which we needed as it was very hot! Then Trevor helped us to our room with the luggage and arranged for a table at a local Italian restaurant in Hout Bay. Welcome complete. The room was bright, bed comfy and ample storage for our bags. But the best has to be the view from our balcony - Hout Bay sparkled! Breakfasts were enjoyable and cooked to order. Hosts were attentive, helpful but respected our privacy. Their home is beautiful.
Beware if you have issues with steep inclines - the approach through the electronic gate is very steep as is the path to the front door - but parking is easy and we had no problem operating the gate. We have visited Cape Town before - Hout Bay is a very good choice if you want lots of eating places close by and local craft market is a good way to while away a couple of hours. We spent a fantastic day out with The Fynbos Guy - a local chap who took us birdwatching and on a lovely walk explaining the fynbos. Kirstenbosch Gardens are close by and again worth a visit. Chapman Peak Drive great for more fantastic views! Can recommend you stay at Amblewood.

We stayed here for a week. The owners Trevor and June are so welcoming and friendly. They will book you into restaurants and advise on places to visit. Ideally situated for exploring this part of the Cape. Just what we needed at the end of our hectic trip.

Excellent location and relaxing stay

Stayed a week, it was not long enough. The owners Trevor and June were so welcoming and friendly. Coming from Canada the views were stupendous and the weather was exactly what we needed considering it was winter at home. Would highly recommend this location, you are in for a treat.

A delightful place to stay in Hout Bay.

We've stayed at Amblewood twice now and hope to stay there again. Trevor and June are a lovely couple and very helpful. They even colluded with me about secret plans for our engagement!
We've looked at every room and all are so tastefully decorated I would find it hard to choose. Most have a great view of the bay and some have a private balcony. Breakfast is delicious.
This is a perfect place to stay.Stayed: August 2017, travelled as a couple

Great hospitality, fantastic city

We stayed at Amblewood in August 2017 on our first trip to Cape Town. Trevor and June were both fantastic hosts and looked after us impeccably. The rooms have fantastic views across Hout Bay and are tastefully decorated with an attention to detail that made all the difference. The atmosphere was very relaxed, and the location was perfect for seeing the area. All in all a fantastic place to stay in a fantastic city!

Wonderful, relaxing stay!

We are so glad that we chose this delightful guest house in Hout Bay for the last 3 days of our three and a half week holiday in South Africa. It was perfect in every way and June and Trevor thoroughly deserve their 5-star rating. They gave us a wonderful welcome with a much appreciated cup of tea and biscuit after a long drive.
We stayed in the Ocean View room which has its own balcony and breathtaking views over the Bay. Loved falling asleep and waking to the sound of the sea. They employ delightful, friendly ladies who wear lovely, colourful uniforms. Breakfast on the terrace served by June and Trevor was delicious with fresh bread daily from the local baker Nothing was too much trouble. it is a perfect place from which to explore Cape Town and an easy drive to the airport. We plan to return - thank you both so much.
